Fritzbox 6490 Update

I have a Fritzbox 6490 International variant(Article no. 2000 2657). On the settings page the under system there's no update button. In the main page the FritzOS version shown is 7.29 and says it is the latest version.

But as I looked the latest version available for this model is 7.57.

How can I update it?

Either by changing the Auto-Update settings to Level III, after which it should install the latest FritzOS version by itself (might be not immediately but over night), or by going to the next tab which is Fritz!OS-Datei. Under that tab you can upload to the FritzBox the FritzOS image file downloaded from AVMs ftp-server. The upload button there will only appear AFTER you have saved once your Fritzbox configuration.

Then try to make a backup first.
If it does not appear then, look in the upper right corner, and see if you have activated the “advanced” or “expert” view.
If this also active, it would appear that you have a FritzBox with a provider managed OS.
In such case, the update button will be missing, because the provider pushes the updates. If your provider has not pushed it yet, this would be pretty poor management, because 7.29 should be replaced at least by 7.30, in most boxes by 7.57, since 7.29 has an already exploited issue.

It was in advanced mode when I took the screenshot. Also, I have performed the backup, and nothing has changed.

The modem belongs to me and not the provider(Vodafone/Unitymedia).
How could they manage the update on my device?

Did you buy it new or used? Any indications somewhere that the OS on it is a branded version? The completely missing update function is normally a strong indicator that the box is a branded version, i.e. a provider box or an ex-provider box sold second hand.

It was used. But not branded.
The article no 2657 is for international. Also in the debug logs the firmware is am.

Well, it is not necessary branded in the way the 1&1 boxes are branded (black and with a 1&1 print on top). KDG boxes were not externally branded, but had a firmware that was different from the normal firmware).
Does this box work on your cable internet connection? Or did you just buy it and are trying to get it to work?

I got it 10 months ago. It has been working in the Vodafone/ Unitymedia network since then.

Yes, but it is still a box the firmware of which has been crippled by the original cable network provider on whose network it had used, which probably was not Vodafone/Unitymedia, but one of the smaller more local suppliers. The link in above post #9 tells you what you need to do.
The problem with your box is likely that - since it says „avm“ - someone has flashed the retail firmware onto it, and maybe that someone also removed the upgrades_managed flag, but doing so does not remove the so-called provider additive part of the firmware, and that remains active and it cannot be deactivated simply by resetting the box. The provider additive needs to be properly removed from the box. This is done as described in the webarchive article mentioned.
